4.2 from 157 reviews

These Billion Dollar Buttery Biscuits are irresistibly flaky and tender, infused with rich melted butter and a unique touch of 7-Up soda for lightness. They bake up golden brown and buttery, perfect for breakfast or as a delicious side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Butter

  • ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter

Dry Ingredients

  • 4½ cups Bisquick or a similar all-purpose baking mix

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup 7-Up or a similar lemon-lime soda
  • 1 cup sour cream (full fat, do not use light)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and melt butter: Preheat your oven to 425℉. Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and put the dish in the oven until the butter has completely melted. Carefully remove from the oven and set aside.
  2. Mix biscuit dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the Bisquick baking mix, 7-Up soda, and full-fat sour cream. Stir until the dough is sticky but combined. If the dough feels too sticky to handle, lightly sprinkle more baking mix onto your work surface and dough.
  3. Shape biscuits: Turn the dough out onto the floured surface. Roll or pat it into a circle about 1 inch thick. Using a round cutter (such as a biscuit cutter, small bowl, or glass), cut out biscuit rounds.
  4. Arrange and bake: Place the biscuit rounds in the baking dish containing the melted butter, making sure they are spaced so they can bake evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until the biscuits turn golden brown.
  5. Finish and serve: Remove the biscuits from the oven and allow them to rest in the buttery pan for a few minutes so they soak up the melted butter. Serve warm for best flavor.

Notes

  • Ensure you use full-fat sour cream for the best texture and flavor; light sour cream may result in less tender biscuits.
  • If the dough is too sticky, add a bit more baking mix gradually; avoid adding too much to keep biscuits tender.
  • These biscuits are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven while still warm and buttery.
  • You can substitute the lemon-lime soda with any similar carbonated soda, but original 7-Up yields the best flavor.
  • Butter amount can be adjusted if you prefer a less rich biscuit experience, but the classic recipe calls for ½ cup.
