  • 1 medium head green cabbage
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 2 (15 oz) cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Boil Cabbage: Boil cabbage leaves in salted water for about three minutes until softened. Set aside.
  3. Sauté Beef Mixture: In a skillet, sauté onions until translucent. Add ground beef and garlic powder; cook until browned. Drain excess fat, then stir in rice and sugar.
  4. Layer Ingredients: Layer half of the crushed tomatoes in the baking dish, followed by half of the cabbage leaves and half of the beef mixture. Repeat layers.
  5. Top and Cover: Pour remaining tomatoes on top and cover with aluminum foil.
  6. Bake: Bake for about one hour until heated through and bubbling. Let cool slightly before serving.
