Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (Adds richness and moisture; feel free to swap with coconut oil for a dairy-free option.)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (Imparts sweetness and a hint of molasses flavor; for a deeper taste, use dark brown sugar.)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (Sweetens and helps create the perfect texture for the bars.)
  • 1 large egg (Binds everything together; you can replace it with a flax egg for a vegan alternative.)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (Enhances all the flavors; opt for pure vanilla for the best results.)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder (Helps the bars rise; you can use baking soda instead if necessary.)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (Amplifies flavors; adjust to your taste, especially if you’re using salted butter.)
  • 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (Infuses the bars with chocolatey goodness; dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips work best.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×9-inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugars: Cream together 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
  3. Add Egg and Vanilla: Add 1 egg and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the mixture, mixing until fully incorporated and smooth (1-2 minutes).
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  5. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips gently with a spatula or wooden spoon until evenly distributed.
  6. Assemble Bars: Pour half of the cookie batter into the lined baking pan, spread evenly, then drizzle 1/2 cup of salted caramel sauce over it. Dollop the remaining cookie batter on top.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 14–16 minutes until the edges turn golden brown and the center remains slightly soft.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before lifting them out and slicing into squares to serve.

Notes

  • Use dark brown sugar for a deeper molasses flavor.
  • Replace the egg with a flax egg for a vegan alternative.
