Vanilla Custard

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Topping

  • 4 large milk chocolate bars, enough to cover the top
  • 2 tablespoons melted milk chocolate, optional for sealing edges

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on the sides.
  2. Smooth the parchment into the corners so the bars lift out cleanly after chilling.
  3. Make the Chocolate Base Melt the milk chocolate chips with coconut oil or butter until smooth.
  4. Stir in crumbs Stir in the chocolate wafer crumbs until fully coated.
  5. Press base Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of the pan.
  6. Chill base Chill for 15 minutes.
  7. Make the Chocolate Cream Layer Warm the heavy cream until steaming, then pour it over the semi-sweet chocolate chips and butter.
  8. Let sit Let it sit for 2 minutes.
