3.9 from 76 reviews

French Toast Roll Ups are a fun and delicious twist on classic French toast, featuring soft sandwich bread filled with Nutella and rolled up, then coated in a cinnamon-sugar mixture and cooked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 8 slices soft white sandwich bread
  • 3 tablespoons Nutella ((see more filling options below))
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (, for greasing the pan)
  • maple syrup (, for serving (optional))

Instructions

  1. Trim the crust: Trim the crust from the bread.
  2. Flatten bread: Flatten each slice of bread out with a rolling pin.
  3. Add filling: Place a heaping teaspoon of your filling in the middle of the bread and spread it out in an even layer, leaving a 1/2-inch border all around.
  4. Roll up: Roll the bread up and repeat with the remaining slices.
  5. Prepare coatings: In a shallow bowl thoroughly whisk the eggs and milk together. In another shallow bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon together.
  6. Heat pan: Warm a griddle (or large sauté pan) over medium heat. Once hot, melt 1 tablespoon butter.
  7. Cook rolls: Coat the rolls with the egg mixture and place seam side down on the griddle. Cook for about 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown. Add more butter to the griddle as needed for the second batch.
  8. Coat rolls with cinnamon sugar: Place the hot rolls into the cinnamon-sugar and roll until completely covered, gently shaking off any excess.
  9. Serve: Serve with a drizzle of maple syrup, if desired.
